Attic Insulation in Philadelphia Homes
As part of a free roof evaluation, Universal Roofing will inspect your attic for proper ventilation and insulation. Where needed, attic insulation is one of the most simple and cost effective ways to reduce energy costs. Insulation and ventilation are key components to the well being of your house, and may be needed to provide you with a full warranty from the shingle manufacturer.
Inefficient Insulation: Most Older Houses don’t have adequate attic insulation because the efficiency of insulation products today is much greater than older insulation. As a result too much heat leaves the home in the winter and too much heat enter the home in the summer. Both result in over working your HVAC and increased utility bills.
Inefficient Airflow: It’s also important to note that most of the air exfiltration (interior air that escapes outside) in a typical house takes place through the attic due to convection and leaks between the attic and the living space below. As conditioned air leaks out, a matching volume of outside air is drawn into the house through leaks in lower locations (air infiltration). This undesirable air exchange also wastes energy and money.
Savings of up to 40%: Sealing and insulating your to levels recommended by the Department of Energy can generate big savings. Unlike an HVAC system, attic air sealing and insulation are “once-and-done” improvements that never require maintenance or replacement. They just keep saving you money for as long as you own your house.
Attic Insulation Types:
Foam Attic Insulation – sprayed on.
Fiberglass Attic Insulation – rolled or hand installed (Loose-Fill or Batt).
Blown In Attic Insulation – blown in with machine.
Attic Foil – hand installed reflective technology.
Eco-Friendly and Environmentally Friendly Insulation Products
Most manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon and offering recycled or sustainable insulation products. Owens Corning for example provides EcoTouch® Insulation with PureFiber® Technology; a revolutionary new product platform that uses 99% natural materials*. EcoTouch® insulation includes a minimum of 58 percent recycled glass content and meets certification standards for indoor air quality. EcoTouch® insulation continues to deliver the energy-saving and acoustical performance, as well as the installation ease our customers expect from Owens Corning.
Our FOAMULAR® Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) Insulation, a rigid board, is used on exterior and interior walls and is reusable, with a proven history of removal, salvage and reuse. It’s the only extruded polystyrene insulation that is certified for its recycled content of at least 20 percent, and also certified by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute’s GREENGUARD Children and SchoolsSM Certification.
